Stricter Enforcement of Late Fees, Grace Periods and Redemption Fees from 1 October 2026

From 1 October 2026, Faciotech will apply the late payment, grace period and redemption terms in the Hosting Agreement consistently to every account. Nothing in the policy is changing, only how consistently it is applied.

ACCRA, Ghana, 21 September 2026. Faciotech has historically been flexible about overdue invoices, expired domains and the fees attached to them. That flexibility has made it harder for clients to know where they actually stand, and it has meant some clients paid fees that others did not. From 1 October 2026 the terms already set out in our Hosting Agreement will be applied the same way for everyone.

This notice explains exactly what happens, and when, so there are no surprises.

Invoices: when a payment becomes late

Every invoice carries a due date. An invoice is late the day after that due date, not after the reminders, and not after a grace conversation.

  • Reminders are sent automatically on days 1, 3 and 7 after the due date.
  • On day 7, a late fee of $10.00 is added to the invoice.

The simplest way to avoid a late fee is to make sure the billing email on your account is one you read, and to pay on or before the due date shown on the invoice.

Hosting: suspension, and eventually deletion

Where a hosting invoice remains unpaid, the service is suspended. When a service is suspended:

  • Your website stops loading and your email stops sending and receiving.
  • Your files, databases and mailboxes are not deleted. They are retained intact.
  • The service is restored once the outstanding invoice is paid.

Suspension is reversible. Deletion is not. Where an account remains unpaid for 120 days, the hosting account and all data in it (files, databases, mailboxes and backups) may be deleted. We will contact you before taking that step, but once an account is deleted the data cannot be recovered.

Domains: grace, redemption, and loss

Domain names work differently from hosting, because the deadlines are set by the domain registry rather than by Faciotech. We cannot extend them. A domain moves through four stages:

StageWhenCost on top of the renewal
Renewal invoice issued14 days before expiryNone
Grace period30 days after expiry$50.00
Redemptionthe following 45 days$92.00
Releasedafter redemption endsThe domain is gone and anyone may register it.

The point most people miss: a domain stops working the moment it expires, not at the end of the grace period. Your website and your email go down on day one of grace. Paying the renewal within those 30 days restores it.

Redemption is a registry restore, not a renewal. The fee above is what the registry charges to pull a domain back, and it is added to the normal renewal price.

If the invoice is never paid, the domain is gone for good

Once the redemption window closes the domain is released to the open market, and this is the part clients most often underestimate. An expiring domain with real traffic and search history is not quietly forgotten. Automated drop-catching services and aftermarket resellers monitor registry expiry lists continuously and register valuable names the moment they are released, frequently within seconds of the window closing.

At that point the domain is no longer ours to renew or yours to reclaim. Recovering it means buying it back from whoever caught it, at whatever price they choose to set, commonly many times the renewal fee, and often it is simply not for sale at any price. Every email address on that domain stops working permanently, and whoever now holds it can receive mail sent to your former addresses.

We have written about this at length in Domain Name Mistakes That Are Costing Your Business Customers.

If you hold several domains, or would rather not track renewal dates yourself, our Domain Management service looks after the whole portfolio (renewals, DNS and records) so that nothing reaches a grace period in the first place.

How to stay clear of all of this

  • Save a card to your account. Invoices are then paid automatically on the due date, which makes late fees, grace periods and redemption irrelevant to you. Add one under Billing → Payment Methods in your client area. Cards are held securely by our payment provider. Faciotech never stores your card number, and you can remove one at any time.
  • Check that the billing email on your account is current and monitored.
  • Renew domains when the invoice arrives, 14 days before expiry, not after.
  • If you are having difficulty paying, contact us before the due date. We can discuss options while an invoice is current; we have far less room once a domain has reached redemption.

Full terms are set out in the Faciotech Hosting Agreement, which governs in the event of any difference between this summary and the policy.
