What does website security include?

Is an SSL certificate included with Faciotech hosting?
Yes. Our web hosting and WordPress hosting plans include free SSL. If you need a certificate that also verifies your organisation, paid certificates start at $17.95 a year.
How can I tell if my website has been hacked?
Common signs are pages, links or pop-ups you did not add, visitors being redirected to other websites, a browser or Google warning about your site, admin users you do not recognise, or your host suspending the account. Malware scanning and uptime monitoring help you catch problems before your visitors do.
Can you fix a hacked website?
Yes. We assess the damage and the backups available, quote the cleanup, then remove the malicious code, restore clean files where we can, close the weakness that let the attacker in, and harden the site. On a Website Care plan we isolate the issue and restore from a clean backup as part of your plan; deep malware removal on a badly compromised site is quoted separately.
How much does malware removal cost?
It depends on how badly the site is infected and which backups exist, so we quote each cleanup after assessing it. For a single small issue, On-Demand Maintenance and Support is $75 for a one-hour session.
Do you provide a website firewall?
Yes. WordPress hosting includes a web application firewall with WordPress-specific rules, brute-force login protection and file integrity monitoring.
If I have backups, do I still need security?
Yes. A backup lets you recover after an attack, but it does not stop one. Security keeps attackers out, and backups get you back online if something still goes wrong. You need both.
What is the difference between free and paid SSL?
Both encrypt the connection between your visitors and your website. Free SSL and RapidSSL certificates are domain-validated. Organisation-validated certificates, such as GeoTrust True BusinessID, also confirm who runs the website, and extended validation (EV) certificates add a deeper identity check.
How will I know if my website goes down?
Uptime monitoring checks your website around the clock and alerts you when it stops responding or your SSL certificate is about to expire. The free plan covers up to 5 monitors with email alerts, and paid plans from $4.99 a month check more often and add SMS and webhook alerts.
