Change your email password: choose DirectAdmin or cPanel
This guide is for an individual mailbox. First check the control panel named in your hosting welcome details or ask your authorised account administrator. Seeing Roundcube does not tell you which hosting control panel you use.
- I use DirectAdmin: follow Option 1 below.
- I use cPanel: follow Option 2 below.
- I have forgotten my mailbox password: follow the Forgotten mailbox password section below.
Before you start: use a trusted HTTPS address supplied with your service. Never continue past a certificate warning, share a password or send a password in a support ticket. Your mailbox, website and hosting-control-panel accounts can have different passwords; changing one does not normally change the others.
Option 1: DirectAdmin
For a separate mailbox with a known current password, use DirectAdmin's mailbox password-change page. You do not need the hosting administrator's login.
- Open the secure password-change link supplied for your service. It normally has this format:
https://yourdomain.com:2222/CMD_CHANGE_EMAIL_PASSWORD. Replaceyourdomain.comwith your own domain; do not enter it literally. If this address is unavailable or shows a certificate warning, stop and ask Faciotech for the correct secure link. - In Email Address, enter the full address of your own mailbox, including the part after
@. - In Old Password, enter your current mailbox password.
- Enter your chosen unique password in New Password and enter it again in Re-Type Password.
- Select Change Password and check the result. If the form rejects the change, follow its displayed requirements; do not assume the password was saved.
- After a successful change, sign out of webmail and sign in again using your full email address and new mailbox password.
This page is for separate mailboxes, not the hosting account's default/system mailbox. If your address uses that system account, or your service has a different interface, ask your authorised administrator or Faciotech before changing anything.
Option 2: cPanel
- Open your service's secure webmail link, usually
https://yourdomain.com/webmail/, and sign in with your full email address and current mailbox password. - If your inbox opens in Roundcube, select Webmail Home to return to the cPanel Webmail interface.
- Open Password & Security. Depending on the interface version, this may be in the Webmail settings or the menu under your email address.
- Enter the new password and its confirmation, meet the strength requirements shown, and select Save. Check the success message before leaving.
- Sign out of webmail, then sign in again with the new mailbox password.
For authorised hosting administrators only: cPanel also provides Email Accounts → Manage beside the intended mailbox. Use its security/password controls to change that mailbox's password. Confirm the exact address first; do not change another person's mailbox without authorisation. Default/system accounts and some provider configurations have different controls. If the expected option is missing, ask Faciotech rather than changing your hosting-account password.
cPanel reference only: Webmail Home → Password & Security. DirectAdmin users should follow Option 1 above instead.
Forgotten mailbox password
The DirectAdmin current-password form and a normal webmail sign-in cannot recover a forgotten password. Contact your organisation's authorised hosting administrator or Faciotech Support through a trusted channel for identity-verified recovery. Resetting a website or Faciotech client-area password does not reset a separate mailbox password.
After changing your mailbox password
- Update the saved password in Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird and every phone or other device using that mailbox, including both incoming and outgoing server settings when stored separately.
- Keep the existing provider-confirmed server names, ports and encryption settings. A password change is not a reason to disable certificate checks.
- Store the new password securely. Use a long, unique password or passphrase that meets the requirements displayed by your service; do not reuse your website password.
- If sign-in fails, check the full email address, keyboard layout and saved old password. Avoid repeated attempts that may lock the account. Ask support if the problem continues.
