Faciotech Free Domains Become a First-Year Offer From September 2025

From 1 September 2025, the Faciotech free domain covers only the first year of any new hosting plan. Existing domains renew at standard published rates.

ACCRA, Ghana, 1 July 2025. Faciotech is giving customers two months' notice of a change to its free domain policy. From 1 September 2025, free domain registration will be included with the first year of a new hosting plan only. Complimentary domain renewals on existing hosting accounts will end, and those domains will renew at standard published rates.

What is changing on 1 September 2025

Until now, some Faciotech hosting plans have carried a free domain that was also renewed at no charge for as long as the hosting stayed active. From 1 September 2025 the free domain becomes a first-year registration offer on new hosting purchases, in line with how the rest of the industry prices domains.

In practice one thing changes: a domain previously renewed free will, on its next renewal on or after that date, be invoiced at the standard rate for its extension. The change applies to domain renewals only.

“Announcing the end of something free is not a comfortable message, so I would rather send it two months early than let it arrive as an unexpected invoice. The registries charge us for every domain renewal every year, and the honest choice is to price that where the cost actually falls instead of raising hosting for customers who never took a free domain.”

Urbanus Azupogo, Founder, Faciotech

Why the free domain policy is changing

A domain is not a Faciotech product. Every domain name carries a wholesale fee charged by the registry that operates the extension, plus an annual ICANN fee on most generic extensions, and those costs are charged to Faciotech every single year the domain exists. Registries discount first registrations and transfers as a way of winning new business; they do not discount renewals.

Absorbing a recurring cost that nobody discounts means recovering it elsewhere: in practice, higher hosting prices for every customer, including those who never took a free domain. Charging the standard renewal rate keeps the cost with the service that incurs it, and keeps hosting priced on its own merits and funding what customers actually judge Faciotech on: reliability, support response times and continued investment in the platform.

What is not changing

  • Your hosting plan. Storage, bandwidth, mailboxes, databases, SSL, backups, control panel access and support are all unchanged. This is a domain billing change, not a hosting change.
  • Your ownership of the domain. The domain remains registered to you. Faciotech is the registrar of record, not the owner.
  • Your right to leave. You may transfer the domain to another registrar at any time, and Faciotech will supply the authorisation (EPP) code on request.
  • The free domain for new hosting customers. Customers buying a new hosting plan continue to receive a free domain registration for the first year.

What to do before your next domain renewal

Check the renewal date and renewal price of your domain in your client area, and review current rates for your extension on the domain names page, since prices differ considerably between extensions such as .com, .net, .org and .com.gh. Decide whether you want auto-renew enabled, and make sure the email address on your account is one you actually read, because that is where renewal notices are sent.

Free domain policy: questions and answers

  • Will new customers still receive a free domain? Yes. A new hosting plan still includes a free domain registration for the first year. Only subsequent renewals are affected.
  • How much will my renewal cost? It depends on the extension. Current pricing is published on the domain names page, and support can confirm the rate for your specific domain.
  • Will I be warned before my domain is due? Yes. Renewal reminders are sent by email ahead of the expiry date, giving you time to renew or decide otherwise.
  • Can I transfer my domain elsewhere? Yes, at any time. Contact support for your authorisation (EPP) code. Transferring a domain away does not affect your hosting.
  • What happens if I do not renew? An unrenewed domain expires into a grace period during which it can usually still be recovered, sometimes with a redemption fee set by the registry. After that it may be released for anyone to register, and is rarely recoverable.
  • Does this affect my website or email? Only indirectly, and only if the domain actually lapses. Your hosting plan, files and mailboxes are untouched by this change. A live domain keeps working exactly as it does today.
  • I have another question. Open a support ticket and the team will answer it directly.
