Stay Safe: How to Spot and Avoid Email Phishing Scams

Email phishing remains one of the most common ways cybercriminals target individuals and businesses. Attackers use increasingly sophisticated techniques — including spoofing trusted domains and exploiting email relay services — to make fraudulent messages appear legitimate.

How These Scams Work

Cybercriminals can exploit vulnerabilities in SMTP relay services (including Gmail and other providers) to send emails that appear to come from a trusted organisation. Since these spoofed emails pass through legitimate mail infrastructure, they often bypass spam filters and land directly in your inbox.

These emails typically attempt to:

  • Trick you into clicking malicious links
  • Steal login credentials or financial information
  • Install malware on your device
  • Impersonate Faciotech or other service providers

How to Protect Yourself

  • Verify the sender. If an email seems unusual — even from someone you know — contact them directly by phone or through a known channel before acting on it.
  • Don't click unexpected links. Hover over links to preview the URL before clicking. If it looks suspicious, don't click.
  • Never share passwords via email. Faciotech will never ask for your password by email.
  • Check for urgency tactics. Scammers create false urgency ("Your account will be suspended!") to pressure quick action.
  • Enable two-factor authentication. Add an extra layer of security to your Faciotech account and email services.
  • Report suspicious emails. If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from Faciotech, forward it to support@faciotech.com and then delete it.

Remember: Stop, look, and think. If something feels off, trust your instincts and verify before you act.
